Jul
This July, we join in the celebration of Disability Pride Month, a significant observance that honors the history, achievements, and contributions of people with disabilities.
It started as a one-day event in 1990 when the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was passed. Disability Pride Month officially began in July 2015 to mark the ADA’s 25th anniversary. Since then, cities across the country now celebrate with parades and various festivities during this month.
The ADA was a significant law that helped protect the rights of individuals with disabilities, ensuring they have the same opportunities as others in areas like employment and public access. The month is dedicated to raising awareness about the challenges faced by the disabled community and celebrating their diverse identities and experiences.
The theme for Disability Pride Month 2024 is “We Want a Life Like Yours.” This theme, introduced by The Arc’s National Council of Self-Advocates, reflects the disability community’s aspirations for life experiences that they are too often denied.
As an estate planning and elder law firm, we are committed to supporting individuals with disabilities. We understand their unique needs and provide customized legal solutions to secure their financial well-being and independence.
